What Does Home Mean to You?:

The Voice of Gail Strachan

The audio portrait of what home means to my mother, Gail Strachan. From leaving Grenada at the age of two years old, to being raised in Canada which developed into her new home.

About the Audio Portrait of

Gail Strachan

Interviewing my mother Gail Strachan was a liberating experience. Even though she has become quite westernized due to the fact that she has lived in Canada for most of her life, her roots still play a strong role in her understanding of home today.

Born in St.Georges Grenada during the 70s, she left the island at the tender age of 2-years-old due to political tensions and economic crisis. Her parents never treated Canada as a permanent home because they always expected to return back to Grenada. Over 40 years later, my family has stayed in Canada making this our new home but a piece of us is still in the Caribbean.
